Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 23, 2026
This policy explains what information GPX2Live.AI ("GPX2Live", "we") collects when you use the app, why, and — because privacy is central to how this product works — exactly which processing happens on your own device rather than on our servers.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name and profile picture. This creates or updates a user record so your projects can be saved to your account.
- Project content you choose to save. If you sign in and save a project, we store the project's title, production name, movie settings, GPX route, and the photos, videos and captions you included, in our database and object storage.
- People you tag. If you tag faces and sign in, a facial embedding (a numeric representation, not a photo) and your assigned name/nickname are stored so the same person can be recognized across your projects.
- Local-only data. Until you sign in and save, your project lives only in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) on your own device. We never see it.
- Standard technical data. Our servers log basic request information (timestamps, error rates) for operating and debugging the service, in the same way most web services do.
2. On-device AI processing — the part we want you to actually read
Face detection and nature/object detection both run locally, in your browser, using on-device machine learning models. The photo or video pixels are never uploaded to a recognition server to identify a face or an object — that computation happens on your own device.
When you use "Identify region" to look up a plant or animal species, we do send iNaturalist a request — but only the broad category (e.g. "bird"), your approximate location rounded to 0.1° (roughly a 10 km radius), and the capture month. The image itself is never included in that request.
3. How we use information
We use the information above to: operate your account and let you sync projects across devices; render the movie you build; show location facts (via Wikipedia) and species suggestions (via iNaturalist) that you explicitly request; and keep the service reliable and secure.
4. Third-party services we rely on
- Google — for sign-in.
- MapTiler and OpenStreetMap — for map tiles used to render your route.
- Wikimedia/Wikipedia — for optional location captions.
- iNaturalist — for optional regional species suggestions, using only the limited, rounded data described above.
Each operates under its own privacy policy for the request it receives.
5. Data storage and retention
Saved projects and their media are stored in our database and object storage until you delete the project or your account. Local, unsaved drafts remain only in your browser and are removed when you clear your browser's site data.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers listed above, to the extent needed to provide the feature you used, and where required by law.
7. Your rights
You can delete any saved project at any time from within the app. To request a copy of your account data or full account deletion, contact us using the details below.
8. Cookies and local storage
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser's IndexedDB storage to hold your in-progress project locally. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
9. Children's privacy
GPX2Live is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
